Helpful writing assistant

I got the LanguageTool Premium annual plan a couple months ago. Ordering it was straightforward on the website, no issues there. Delivery was instant since it's a digital service. I primarily use the Browser Extension for Firefox and the Add-on for Google Docs. Both integrated without any problems. The Punctuation Checker and Tone Detector have been surprisingly helpful. I write a lot of emails, and it catches awkward phrasing. I did have a quick question about setting up the Personal Dictionary, and customer support replied to my email within a day, which was good. It definitely improved my writing flow.

Quick help for my writing

I bought the LanguageTool Premium plan. It instantly upgraded my account. The grammar checker works fine for my emails. It's a quick and easy way to catch mistakes.

Good tool, decent value

I purchased the LanguageTool Premium annual subscription after trying the free version. The AI Grammar Checker and Style Checker features are really useful for my work, catching things I'd usually miss. The browser extension for Chrome works well and integrates seamlessly. My main gripe was that the setup for the Microsoft Word add-on was a bit clunky, took a few tries to get it working right. Overall, it's a solid tool and I feel like I got good value for the yearly price.

Thinking of upgrading to premium, but worried about getting stuck. How easy is it to cancel the subscription if I don't like it?

A Anna V. 1 month ago
Super easy. I cancelled my free trial once without any hassle, just a few clicks in the account settings. No need to call anyone.

Yeah, it's pretty straightforward to cancel. You won't get a refund for the unused time if you cancel mid-period, but it won't auto-renew.

Anyone know if they offer a student discount? I'm in college and every little bit helps.

D Dan N. 1 month ago
They totally do! I got one last year. You usually have to verify your student status through some portal. Check their site for the details.

Yup, student discounts are a thing. Also, look out for educator discounts if you're a teacher. They're pretty good about supporting academic folks.

Does LanguageTool ever have sales for new subscribers? Trying to save a few bucks if possible.

K Kate 1 month ago
They do sometimes! I got 20% off my first year with a promo code I found around Black Friday. Keep an eye out then.

Yeah, check during seasonal peaks like 'back to school' or around the holidays. They usually have something for new sign-ups or annual plans.

My coupon code isn't working. It says it's invalid. Any ideas why?

R Raj 1 month ago
Make sure it's for the right type of plan, like an annual premium. And sometimes they're only for new subscribers. Also, you can't stack them.

Did you already have a subscription? Some codes are only for first-time users. Or maybe it expired? That happened to me once.

Thinking of getting the premium version. How many devices can I actually use it on? Like, can I have it on my work laptop and my home desktop?

J June 1 month ago
Yeah, you can definitely use it on multiple devices. I have it on my Mac, my work PC, and my phone. As long as you log in with your account it just works.

I think you just log in, right? It's not like a single install license. I've got it on a couple of browsers and my tablet without issues.

Is it possible to use LanguageTool offline with the premium plan? My internet can be spotty sometimes.

S Sarah B. 2 months ago
Nah, I'm pretty sure it needs an internet connection to work. All the AI stuff is cloud-based. I've tried using it when my wifi was out and it just spun.

Afaik, you need to be online. It's checking against a big database and all that smart tech. Might be an issue if you're writing somewhere with no signal.

hey, trying to decide between languagetool and grammarly. anyone have experience with both and can tell me which one's better for general writing stuff?

O Omar 1 month ago
I used Grammarly for a while but switched to LanguageTool. I find LT picks up more subtle style things, especially for longer documents. Grammarly was fine for quick emails though.

It really depends. If you write in multiple languages, LT is awesome. Grammarly is mostly for English. For just English, it's pretty close, but LT feels a bit more natural sometimes.

How accurate is this thing compared to just using Word's built-in checker? Does it actually catch more?

D Dana E. 2 months ago
Oh, it's way better than Word. Word's checker is pretty basic. LanguageTool catches much more complex grammar errors and style issues, especially with tone.

J James Carter 2 months ago
Word is okay for basic spelling, but LT goes beyond that. It's like having a real editor review your stuff, not just a simple spellcheck.
